In summary
Ensure the 3D model of your design accommodates all 4 core components:
For the bulb, remember to protect users from direct glare as well as allow for easy bulb installation replacement.
For the bulb socket and metal weight, leverage the cavities included in the modeling starter kits to house each component.
For the cable cord, remember implement entryways that are .25" in diameter and passages that are .35" in diameter.
For assembly, the most important thing to remember is that people possess only so much strength, dexterity, and patience. A fellow human is pulling together the parts of your design, so ask yourself, “what can I do to make this assembly as easy as possible for them?”
If using fasteners, ensure that there is enough room for the assembler to get their hand to the fastening point with a screw driver, and the fastener holes are designed with “funnels” to help locate the fasteners into place.
Avoid including fragile parts in your design, at risk of being broken during the assembly process.
Minimize the total number of parts without compromising the manufacturability of the design.
Ensure that the proper order of operations and orientation of each part in your assembly is unambiguous by utilizing locating features, symmetry, and asymmetry.
